Melinda Bittler, LVT
Melinda grew up in Norfolk Virginia. She went to college at Virginia Tech and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in biology. Throughout high school and College she volunteered at the local vet clinic and the Norfolk Zoo. She was accepted into the Vet Tech program at Blue Ridge Community College and graduated in 1996. Once she passed boards, she became a Licensed Veterinary Technician and secured a job here in Richmond. She enjoys spending time going to the gym and taking care of her small farm at home. Melinda has 2 dogs, 6 cats, 8 chickens, 3 ducks, 1 rabbit and a pond with fish and frogs.
Brenda Woolcott, Vet Assistant
Brenda started in the veterinary field almost 25 years ago as a kennel assistant. After a year she was promoted to kennel manager. After that she worked her way up to Veterinary Technician Assistant and receptionist. She has three dogs, five cats and chickens. In her free time she enjoys motorcycle rides and relaxing in her pool.
Annette Estes, Office Manager
Annette has been with Pocoshock Animal Hospital since 1981. After many years working as part of our reception team, she now enjoys being part of the management and operation of the facility.
Gayle Calhoun, Practice Manager/Owner
Gayle started working at Pocoshock Animal Hospital (PAH) on April 3, 2001, as a receptionist. This was after a 19-year career as a Federal Civil Servant with the USDA. Soon after starting at PAH, Gayle realized she was where she should have been all her life! While still a receptionist she started helping the Office Manager and eventually became the Office Manager and then Practice Manager. When Dr. Hickey decided to sell the practice, Gayle decided to buy it and got her husband, Bootsie, on board. After talking about it and getting details worked out for about two years, it finally happened on April 21, 2009. Gayle and Bootsie now own Pocoshock Animal Hospital. In her spare time Gayle enjoys making beaded jewelry, working on craft projects, making quilts, and spending time with her family and pets. She has 3 cats: Sabrina, Blue, and Sybil; and a parrot named Jenday. All three cats were strays that showed up at the hospital or at her home and were rescued.
Lauren Raucci, Receptionist
Growing up with four cats and dogs as her brothers and sisters, Lauren always knew her passion was working with animals. While volunteering as often as she could, she knew her love for animals is what she wanted for a career. She started at Pocoshock in February of 2016. Lauren has one dog Marley, a Bischon Frise and two cats, Stinky and Jupiter. She is a proud soccer mom and diehard New York Mets fan who enjoys doing puzzles and playing video games with her fiancé.
Aubrey O. Friedhoff, III (Bootsie), Maintenance/Owner
Bootsie started as a team member at Pocoshock Animal Hospital on April 21, 2009, when he and his wife Gayle purchased the hospital from founder Dr. Charles Hickey, Jr. Bootsie fixes anything that breaks, takes care of our yard, paints, cleans, and helps keep the hospital looking good and working properly.
